PRT is 100% Accessible
PRT is more convenient for the physically disabled, seniors and children. 100% of system capacity is available for wheelchairs, walkers, bicycles and strollers. As easy to use as an elevator, there are no schedules, route maps, transfers or driving to do. Select your destination, swipe your PRT card, have a seat and off you go.
Not only for the handicapped but also for people who use public transit that must adjust their schedule to fit the transit schedule. That may mean leaving home early to catch the train, leaving a party early before the last bus of the day, etc. Longer trips by electric wheelchairs, bicycle or walking are reachable when a part of the journey includes PRT.
Standard transit practice is to provide space for two wheelchairs per bus and two bike racks. What happens when there is one wheelchair or bike on the bus and two wheelchair-bound or cycling friends want to get on at the next stop? With the PRT system, every vehicle can be used to carry a wheelchair equipped patron, plus a walking attendant OR a person and their bicycle. The system essentially provides a constant stream of usable capacity at every station to carry however many wheelchairs or bikes show up.
PRT provides a premium service rather than the ETS mission to: "Meeting the basic mobility needs of people who have no other travel alternative; basic service at reasonable cost". Why should you accept basic service just because you do not own a car? Don't you pay the same taxes like everyone else?
